Thompson Center Icon
« on: December 12, 2006, 02:40:46 AM »
I've seen a few posts on other forums about a new bolt action rifle that T/C is coming out with. One poster said he saw an article in the new Guns & Ammo about it but the website didn't mention it. Has anyone heard any more about it? Or better yet a picture would be nice. I can't get much info on it.

The picture of the TC icon in the latest Guns and Ammo looks like a pretty sweet little rifle.  Here is a short description based on what I read in G&A:  Flat bottom reciever anchored in aluminum bedding block by 3 action screws, externally adjustible trigger (2.5-6lbs), detachable magazine, decent walnut 20lpi checkering and a hand rubbed finish, initial chamberings 30TC and 308

What is 30 TC?

Its a new cartridge comming out created by TC and Hornady.  Its a short fat 30 cal round designed for use in short actions.  With Hornady's "special" powders it's said to launch a 150 gr bullet at 3,000 from a 20 or 22" barrel.  I guess it will be available in 2007 sometime.

All I can say is the engineers and ballisticians(sp?) must be pretty darn busy at Hornady with all the new cartridges they have comming out right now (308 marlin, 375 ruger, 30 TC etc).  I would imagine it takes a good bit of research to determine if these cartridges are worth marketing and apparently they believe that is the case if production is starting.

oneshotonekill,

Do you have a scanner so we can see a pic from Guns&Ammo?

The cartridge in the picture in G and A looks like a 30-284.  This should give the same ballistics as a 30-06 and with Hornady's new propellents may exeed it.
