Anyone know of problem Model 70's lately? Gun's w/ no accurcy?
« on: December 11, 2006, 11:41:47 AM »
A buddy of mine bought a Model 70 at Walmart for 399 w/ scope that was chambered in 7mm RUM.  The gun has proven to be totally inaccurate no matter what precautions are taken.  Scope and rings have been replaced, gun has been shot by multiple people, and NO ONE can manage a group at even 100 yards.  We are talking totally random patterns... the best of which might be 5'' groups.... usually more like 8-10.  What the heck could this be?  Bad rifling? Bad headspacing? He cleans the gun no more than anyone i know, and takes wonderful care of it.  I just can't figure it out, and feel like crap since I'm the part time employee who sold it to him :(

Normally I would send such a rifle back to the manufacturer.  Don't know how that's being handled since they closed the factory...

It would not surprise me if the last model 70's were slapped together quickly before the factory closed

I have the same problem with my new 223WSSM. I have tried many different loads with no positive results the stock has been glass bedded. I am about ready to give it a good trading off, I have never had a rifle that i could not make work to some degree but this one is a bummer. I an lucky to get it to shoot 1 1/2 groups at 100 yds which i don't think is good enough......Joe......

Just a thought, it could be just about anything, but maybe something is wrong with the scope itself?  Try using a different scope and see what happens, and make sure that you use blue loctite.
