Do you modify your NEF guns?

Hi All

Just wondering if any one else is a mod nut like me.

Seems that I cant leave a NEF alone I have to dress it up somehow.

Most of my shotguns have trimmed barrels (within legal specs)

My rifles have choate stocks and the like (Not the plain ones the folding and survivor types)

Dont know why I do this.  The handi is a single shot.  I am never gonna be able to be on a SWAT team with one.  BUT I LOVE DRESSING THEM UP ;D

Anyone else?

Hey Kid,

My new 500 is sitting at the dealer's shop right now and I will be picking it up tomorrow.  Shortly after I pick it up, it will be off to Precision Rifleworks for one of these.

My favorite modificaiton is to make a new caliber out of it that's not offered, .280Imp-Imp, .35 Remington, .45-120-3¼" Sharps, .405 Winchester and .338-06 A-Square, so far, also have several with stocks that aren't available to give them a look that is unique. Just swapping stocks between existing offerings is a great start to your own "custom" Handi collection!! ;)

I've done a few...

308 Bull barreledSurvivor restocked..steel forend spacer and steel trigger gaurd in the Cinnamon Laminates..



My 26" 270 Winchester...



My 338-06 A-Square





Quite a few others that have restocked...with stocks no longer available...and with some do-it-yourself GunstockInc stocks..My 243 Ultra..



There will be some new funiture going on one sometime soon...Haven't decieded if it will be on a custom chambering or factory...It's a fun way to fix them up...

well of corse we do....i liked my huntsman so much... i put on a set of remington< METAL>rifle sights ..i cut off  4 in. of barrel to make itfaster on those running shots..........but i also put that 4 in barrel on a cva pistol stock and have the best shooting b.p. pistols around... ;Dthis goes with the quick release scope rings that if i need a long shoti can have the glass to use. :o thats just on the ft stuffers......gotta love those handis...jb

No pics as of yet but I have a 445 SuperMag (rechambered from a 44 Mag). Wears a nice set of polished cinnamon laminate stocks.
I have a 357 Maximum (rechambered from a .357 Mag) also wearing cinnamon laminates.
I have 24" .223 Bull barrel mounted on a receiver with some of those UVF stocks for one of my prarie dog rigs.( http://www.graybeardoutdoors.com/smf/index.php/topic,92357.0.html )
I have a standard 20 gauge Pardner barrel to which is added a scope rail after being drilled and tapped by a gunsmith. Will make one ragged hole at 50 yards with 5/8 oz. foster slugs.
I once had a 28" 12 gauge barrel professionally cut and recrowned at 23" but it never shot the foster slugs as well as the 20 gauge is now.
I have a Topper 88 26" 20 gauge barrel mounted on my Huntsman frame right now. Purchased the Topper barrel and forearm for $25 from a local shop here. It is a killer on birds out to 40 yards  :o with the Remington Heavy Dove 7 1/2's.
My next couple projects will be a 32" BC accessory barrel cut and recrowned to 26" to which I will add a scope and some of the Topper Deluxe Classic shotgun stocks. Add weight to the buttstock and then to try some of those 300 grain Partition loads that Quick and Mac are so famous for. I'm also trying to figure out a way to make something out of one of the new 45LC barrels .

I actually wind up MZ and rifle hunting out of what have started out being bow stands during gun seasons here a lot. So that's a lot of the reason for the slug gun, which I did carry opening day of rifle season here this year BTW. I can allso can shoot 357 mag from the maxi and it is a fine 50 yard gun as well. I have a 14 yr. old daughter who's itching to hunt so the Mag ammo will be for her when it's time (unless I wind up with one of those 45LC barrels before then). Have the 445 SM which is perfect for 100-150 yards, and I have a dead-on Weatherby Vanguard 30-06 for anything heavier or further. Got lot of just-for-fun guns too, a 30-30 bolt action Savage and Savge MKII .22LR. Couple nice PD guns as well, a Savage 12FV 22-250 and an old tang safety Ruger MK77 in 220 Swift. Yea it's a tough choice which one goes where and when, but it certainly doesn't get boring. I even had the 22-250 re-sighted in for some looooong range neck shots on deer with some 55 gr. Sierra Blitz Kings (no comments please  ::)) that didn't develop though, but I was ready just the same.

I did modify or rather rebuild my two Handi's, which includes just about every part in the rifle. Action and forarm bedding, fitting the barrel into the action, trigger job, replace all the springs. Mill the barrels octagon, rebore and rechamber, single sight blocks, shorten the hammer for better scope clearance.

There is a lot you can do with a Handi. Particulary improve accuracy. The two 223 I had did not shoot to my satisfaction, and the 24" bull barels were well suited for an octagon job.
