38/55 target model

Anybody got the lowdown on using cast bullets IN THE 38/55.  Seems the bore is .379 but .379 bullets will not load in the fireformed case without case damage.  What size has shown great accuracy with smokeless?

Check out http://www.assra.com/ , the folks over there are all single shot people with an eye toward competition. They can answer all your questions and tell you where to get the best deals on dies and other reloading equipment in addition to good advise on what ails your shooting rig. I have a Winchester High Wall in 38-55 that is getting "tweaked". Actually a full blown Schuetzen, they have really helped with some of the obscure parts..separate bullet seater, then the cartridge is put in. Obscure stuff like that. Don;t know if you want to get that anal retentive about it, but it is there if you want it.

BTW, by changing stocks, I intend to use it for hunting. Kinda heavy though.

Good luck,
Chris

Hi, I have two target models, one a H&R and the other a Wesson and Harrington.  Accuracy at best was mediocre, until I talked to a factory rep at H&R and found out the barrels are supposed to be .379.  I changed to Cast Performance 260 gr gas checked at .380 diameter and groups shrunk down to 1" at 100 yards.  The H&R chambers tight with the .380 bullets, but the Wesson and Harrington is fine.
