Masterblaster.
Now that is some handle, huh? Nice to see someone shooting does. Everybody wants to shoot bucks, thinning out all the good breeding stock. Concrats :D :D :D

My friends up north will not shoot a doe, even though the game department issues extra doe tags, supplimentory doe tags, special shot gun doe tags, just to harvest some does since there are way to many.

I toke five does myself this year, and five last year too. Two Mulie does and three WT does. Besides thet are better eating that some of the tough old bucks.
When I have a chance too shoot a buck, I always go for an imature one if I can.

I think it is wrong to shoot nothing but prime bucks. But old habits are hard to wipe out.

Good shooting and good hunting buddy. More hunters should follow your and Fred M's example. I try to take either a big doe or a small one that I think may not make it through the winter and also try to leave the small spikes and young bucks, however when it's even hard to see a deer it's shoot what you legally can....I am sure if I could get more than 2 or 3 days to  get up to camp as has been the case for the last 3 years it would be different. Next year it WILL be different....<><.... :)

those heavy bullets are easy on the meat.      you can eat right up near to the hole.....

congratulations and keep up the good work young man.

Way to go,make some fine eating.I agree with Fred M,nice to see someone shooting does.We have same problem here, everbody shoots bucks but won't shoot a doe.I get to hunt bucks tomorrow and next day,and if I don't get one big deal,I'll get a doe or two next week or the extra season the three days after christmas.Had twelve does in yard this evening, and have seen many more while hunting so they need thinned out.

I shoot does because normally they taste better and i figured two does in the hand was better than a buck in the bush. These were shot in the western Upper peninsula of Michigan. I used the heavy bullets hoping for less meat loss but they still destroyed way too much for my liking. Before i had the .280 i was using a marlin .35 Rem and never got this kind of meat loss. So right now i will take any opinions for what bullet in 7mm/.284 diameter destroys less meat. I handload so i can make pretty much anything. So far i have got 2 with the aforementioned 175gr interlock and one last year with 139 gr sst. The sst performed like an explosive varmint bullet. Any suggestions on a bullet that always exits on behind the shoulder shots but does not create much meat loss??

OK devils advocate here but,  behind the shoulder shot and massive amounts of ruined meat??????????? Shoot em a little further behind the shoulder!! ;)

140 gr ballistic tip 55 grains 4350  takes em out in large fashion. ;D

Just try loading it down to lower velocity. What is the distance of your average shot at a deer. Now what have the distances been that you HAVE shot a deer? If the upper UP is anything like Maine, you and I can sometimes, but not often, see 100 or 200 yards while hunting, so in Maine my average deer shot COULD be about 80-100 yards. However, in reality I have never shot a deer over 40 yards in Maine, it is because I hunt the thick stuff, the so called "greengrowth", fir thickets and cedar swamps. I also used to use my ol;d favorite, my Marlin 336 in .35 Remungton, I used it for years with little if any meat loss and quite a few deer to it's gredit, and someday, God willing I will have my Handi in .35 Remgton, until then I shall use other calibers. I hunted this year with my Handi in 45-70 with 28.0 grains of 2400 pushing a 350 grain Hornady RN bullet. I did not get a chance at a deer but I am positive there would have been little wasted meat with that load. I also brought my 19" barrelled .280 Remington Handi with a red dot and a survivor stock with Remington factory 140 grain Core Lokts SP's. I shot it at camp and it's a sweet gun for close handling situations, I just wanted to use the Hornady load on a deer, no luck. Anyway, I digress, I suggest loading to a lower velocity, especially if you average deer kill distance is 100 yards or under, hyper space velocity is not needed. Best of luck....<><.... :)

As far as aiming point, I usually (all but 1 deer, and that one was a story in itself!!!) shoot deer in the neck, they drop as if poleaxed and little wasted meat, not much but stew beef in the neck anyway....<><.... ;)
