Well I think the server crashed while I was posting this. Anyway I have an older A5 Lightweight 20 with a full choke (patterns like a modified) and I am not familiar with the newer non toxic shot.  Is there anything I can use that is softer than steel and will not harm this barrel?  We jump shoot alot of swamp ducks and I am tired of lugging the old heavy Mod 43 Marlin around.  The shooting is very close and fast so I believe this gun will work just fine on these short shots.
     Thanks!!!                                                                 Jeff

No steel! Maybe bismuth.

Thanks for the reply!  Is bismuth softer?

The two non-toxic choices that can be used in shotguns and chokes designed for lead, that I am aware of, are Kent's Tungsten Matrix and Bismuth.  Tungsten Matrix is a mixture of tungsten and polymer.  Bismuth is soft and almost as dense as lead, I'm not sure about Tungsten Matrix's density, but is soft too.  Do not get Tungsten Iron which is dense like lead and very hard, which makes it very effective when using modern guns.  But it will wreck a fine double in a hurry.  They are both pretty spendy.

By the way I have Light 12 A5. Got to love them old Brownings! I am looking for a nice Light 20 so that I will have a pair.
