Thanks Quick!!, that was an old (see the style of the original red colored recoil pad?) pistol grip non Monte Carlo stock that I made into a straight stock for Tallyho. It was pallet wood but since it was so old it might have been a different wood than the new pallet wood stocks. It was very close grained with little sap wood and it did come out to look just like walnut. I have been able to replicate a pretty close to walnut color on some stocks and yet some others just don't quite make it to the color I prefer, the biggest implement to looking like walnut is the grain of the wood really, most colors can be matched pretty closely through experimentation. Someone here has just recently posted a picture of a redone stock set with nice faux fiddleback grain in them. I would like to locate that post and contact the member to pick his brain on how he did it, years ago some stockmakers would soak a string in something (I forget what) wrap it around the stock from one end to the other about .5 to 1.0 inches apart on the wraps and then light the string and let it burn it's way from beginning to end, when completed that did a fine job of looking like fiddleback. There is another picture somewhere, pretty close in time to the one Quick posted of a standard brown laminated Monte Carlo buttstock that I re-did into a straight laminated stock after someone here aaked if they were available, I finished that one in a sort of Rosewood stain with a Tung Oil finish and it now is on my .35 Whelen. I posted pictures here of that stock also, I just don't know how to locate them with this new search feature, I cannot seem to locate much of anything with it, all I seem to get even when I check off Search/GBO are internet listings

By the way Tim, regarding not being able to get my posts with the search feature, most of the time my posts don't even get added to the post number count, it's been right around the same number for quite a few days now, it seems to go up 1 number perhaps every 3 or 4 posts. I have also lost several long detailed posts I have made lately and became too frustrated to retype several of them. the GB system OR my computer has been very slow and mixed up lately, however other sites are working fine (and quite fast) on my computer
