Process/Cost for a rechamber
« on: November 27, 2006, 12:06:21 PM »
I'm thinking that the odds of NEF offering a .460/.454 barrel are pretty low, but it's a caliber that I'd like to have. Is there any way I can get someone to make me one w/o it costing a small fortune? Who's the best person to contact for this?

Thanks,
robert

See the Rechamber sticky at top of this list! ;) But it's going to be more than a rechamber, there's no great barrel yet that would be a good donor, the only .452 barrel is the .45C/.410 Survivor on an SB1 frame(not strong enough!) with it's 3"chamber, but next year a .45LC Buffalo Classic with 20" barrel on a rifle frame will be available for $300+. You can plan on $50-$100 for just a rechamber and ejector/extractor modification if needed.

It's right where it's always been, the 6th subject down in the NEF/H&R Centerfire forum.  I can see it, dunno why it's a problem unless there's a software glich that only allows me to see it ??? It's titled ****FAQ's and HELP****  DIrect link below. ;)

Sorry Marv...the only way to do that would be to lock all of the stickys, they move every time someone posts to them, since the FAQ is the only one locked, it will stay at the bottom due to the last post date.

:D I talked to Wayne York about the very thing.  I been thinking of getting my screwed up .308 barrel rebored and rechambered to .454 casuall.  he said no problem for $275+shipping.  Going to send it off after deer season because he needs my frame to make a new extractor.  Can't wait should be a great barrel when finished.

Thanks for the news. Guess there's another frame in my future. Of course, this brings up a few more questions:
1) will the .45LC barrel be able to handle the .454 pressure?
2) will the new barrel come ready for .410's as well? If so, is any chamber modification necessary to fire .454's? (I thought the only difference between the .45 and .454 was chamber length, and the .410 should be much longer than either.)

I would think so, if a rebored .308 barrel can handle it, I would think the .45C should be able to, but we'll have to wait and see and get a professional opinion on that.

So far as we know, it will be a .45C barrel, not a .45C/.410 combo barrel like on the Survivor.
