Winchester 1885 in 17 Mach 2
« on: November 24, 2006, 01:24:54 PM »
Just picked up a Winchester 1885 in 17 Mach 2  today.   The better half had me run her around shopping and I guess I spent more that she did  ;D   NIB and really nice wood compaired to some of the Low walls I have seen.  Does anyone have one of these and if so  what are your likes -dislikes ?  Now off to get some ammo for it.....

Well.....  I'll tell myself anyway..  shot it the other day.  Held right at an inch at 50yds with iron sights.   I'll probaly scope this one as I feel it and my eyes would make a good pair.   Cabelas had 17hm2 for 4.99 a box so I ordered 2 bricks.  Couple of bucks a box cheaper than local prices  around here. :D

I have one in .17HMR and one in .22lr. I like them alot. They need a trigger job out of the box. Once you take care of that you are good to go.

outstaning firearm design.  personally though I think it deserves classic chamberings which the .17 isn't.   Just a funnt way to think.  Do hope you enjoy your '85.  Were it me, I'd go with one of the period style tube sights.

I agree with the tube sight idea but, the Magnifaction power of the tubes that I have seen is pretty low.  I do want one for my 1885 in 38-55    Its on my Christmas list.....

This trigger isn't to bad on this one and I havn't tried to adjust it yet.  Brownells has a different screw for it thats suppose to work pretty good.

Tube sights have zero magnification. They are simply sights mounted inside a tube that looks much like a long scope.

Marlinman93,  I meant the Malcom style scopes which I think are 4power.  $419 @ Buffaloarms    I want one of those for my 38-55 Highwall.   So many options and so little $$ :-[
