Accuracy Reports -- Mossberg ATR vs. Stevens 200
« on: November 22, 2006, 05:28:23 PM »
Considering a Mossberg ATR or Stevens 200 in .308.  Read alot of "good gun for the money" drivel, but I want to know hard numbers.  What have you guys been punching in the paper?

The only Stevens I have is in .22-250.  I bought it towards the end of the summer and have only shot the Winchester White box ammo through it and not a full box.  I have shot one three shot group that was less than an inch.  Most of the groups have been in one inch or a tad more.  Other than the rough area at the checkering, so far, I like the gun and will probably pick up another one in 7mm-08.  I also have a older Savage 110 in .30-06 that is virtually the same as a Stevens.  It will shoot consistant 1" three shot groups with Win Power Point 180 gr SP's,  if I do my part.  My ATR .30-06 shoots just as well as the Savage.  I've spent more time with the ATR and have found it is not very choosy with what it shoots.  It likes Core Locts, Power Points and Federal Power Shok's, all 180 gr Sp's.  As a matter of fact, I have it zeroed to shoot the bull at 100 yards with Rem Core Locts.  With the same scope setting it shoots the Winchesters 1"-2" high at 12 o'clock.  I don't have actual results, yet, but I figure that gives me at least a 200 yard zero with just a change of ammo.

I recently obtained an ATR in .308 with the wood stock, but have yet had a chance to shoot it.

The triggers on the 200 and ATR could be lighter and each has a little creep, but I find it easy to get used to.

If you would like some additional background on the ATR do a Google search for Raptor Arms and/or Charter 2000.  Mossberg purchased the tooling and rights to manufacture the ATR from a rifle that was produced by those companies. Although the ATR is pretty much a copy or the Raptor rifle, Mossberg did make some changes when they aquired the rights to manufacture it, so it is not entirely the same.

Hope this helped.

Don't have a Stevens, but do have a Savage Mod. 11 in .308 and had a Mod. 10 in .270 that I gave to my son in law. I replaced the .270 with and ATR and it shoots as good as either of the Savages. To me personally, 1-1/2" is good just because I can't hold any better than that.

I have both, the ATR in  30-06 and its easily capable of doing 1" groups at 100 yards....however this is factor ammo remington 180 corelokts

With the stevens I have is in 223 and I just got it less than 1 month ago, my 100 groups are less then 1/2 inch

theyr both good, but the stevens "i think" is more accurate (but this is just my opinion)

I have 2 Stevens, a 7-08 and a 25-06. Have one Mossberg ATR in 270. Stevens are a little more accurate and have slightly better triggers. Both rifles are great buys, can't go wrohg with either.............

I have a Stevens in 270, shoots very well, one complaint is the stock seems wider in the grips than it needs to be. Though I have nver handled an ATR to compare. Both guns seem to be solid econo-guns, I think the stevens give you better catridge selection.
