Does anyone here use scope tape? Where do you get it? What could be used as a subsutitute?

I've only used it with rings that provide the tape. I don't think it's necessary if you have good rings.

I use reg. elec. tape when mounting ALL my scopes. If you ever remove the the scope it doesn't have any ring marks. Normally I just have to wipe the glue from the tape off. Not a total nessecity, but I do it.

I never use tape on my scope but I don't take them off unless I'm haveing a new barrel put on then that scope goes back on.

What is the life span of scope tape?
I have scopes in place for a least 20-years, it seems the tape would deteriorate from gunoil and aging resulting in a lose scope.
