New Rifles lost a Friend
« on: November 16, 2006, 02:24:09 AM »
 >:( >:( I posted not long ago that i was going to build a new rifle battery and I did have fun with this post and did finally spend my pennies on 4 new rilfes. Put on good scopes and the world was good. Then my truck blew up and I come to find out my so called friend blew up too. I went from looking forward on huntin again to no one to hunt with. I need my knees replaced and simply do not like going it alone much any more. This may not be the place to post this but has anyone else had this happen to them? Having spent 20+ years man and boy in the military friendships are something that develops slowly and honestly I have few of (me not someone else) and enjoy good friendships. Like many military men we lose contact with our friends after we leave the military and so it goes. The hunting country here in New Mexico is hard to hunt alone and my frustration with certain individuals is at it's peak if you know what i mean. Just venting i guess but if any of the members from this area need a hunting partner let me know. I hope no one else has this happening to them. Guess should have shot my ole guns, driven a wreck and my "friends" life would have been perfect.. :D :D :D :D :D Jess

Jess,

It doesn't sound like that "friend" was a true one to begin with.  I have suffered a similar event in the last few years.  Frail egos do not make good friends.

It seems, as we age, we have more acquaintances, and fewer friends.  At least that has been my experience over the last decade.  Time tends to prove out who is a true friend or not.

I would be happy to hunt with you if I could draw a non-resident tag!

Jess, I know your anguish, I've had many hunting friends come and go, but I've only had one true hunting partner which I've hunted and fished with since I met him in 1972, the others have come and gone, but he's a true friend and we hunt, fish and do other outdoor activities together as both our families have too, our hunting camp memories are many and dear to us even though his father has passed and mine no longer is hunting with us.

A true hunting partner is not easy to find, there have been many articles written about the topic in outdoors mags and they all have the same theme, for 2 people to have the same interest AND not allow their egos and personalities to cause friction, is rare, but possible, sometimes that person is even a spouse, so don't look too far!!

Good luck to you, I hope you find one of those rare people to share your love of the outdoors. ;)
