Holy cow!!! Did that happen to you personally?

Thankfully no. It happened to a relative of a co-worker. He is OK but pretty shook up from what i've heard.

I read that the gun in question was a Savage and that the action was not harmed. If true, that ought to be a pretty good testimony to the strength of the Savage action.

About the tube:

Coppertop, was the tube cut? The four sections look pretty neatly done and equal in width, as if  someone had cut it and bent it back for some reason.

I'm still trying to find out the details, but that was my first question. Sure looks like a pretty even blow out to me.

I went hunting this morning, and as I frequently do before I load up and get in to position, I removed the bolt and took a quick peek down the bore.  Never know when a stick or something might get lodged down there.  It never hurts to double check.

What cartridge company made that barrel?  The expansion and perfect mushroom are beautiful on that thing!  Would definitely do some good internal damage, and make a good wound channel.

Reminds me of a mythbusters episode when they were trying to make a barrel split like that like they do in the cartoons, they busted the myth they could not get the barrel to split even after WELDING a plug into the end of the barrel, I say busted looks to me like it was cut.
