353 Casull
« on: November 15, 2006, 02:19:01 AM »
Ive read about the 353 Casull and was wondering if FA makes a certain gun for it or can it be fired in an 83 or 97 chambered 357 mag. After all isnt it just a Super +P .357 Magnum?

Actually it's just the model designation for the Model 83 chambered to the standard old .357 Magnum and then the round is loaded up the full potential as it once was, maybe even a wee bit more. But it's still a .357 Magnum.

Im really liking the idea of having a 357 that you can plink around with 38spcl and 357 then handload to the power of a 44 magnum. Im concerned about flame cutting though with velocities that high. Is there substantial(or any) flame cutting with these revolvers/ 357 +P+Plus?

You absolutely CANNOT load the .357 Magnum to the power level of the .44 Magnum. Flame cutting shouldn't be a problem in the FA353.

What I meant by the 44 magnum power is that a 180gr bullet at 1650fps creates 1080fpe. A 240gr bullet at 1400fps creates 1040fpe. I didnt mean full power 44 magnum, I mean it can create enough energy to be up there with .44 magnum.

What is the application of so much muzzle energy in a 357? Remembering, once you cut through, you cut through. Bore means a lot IMO.

Ive been wanting a FA but couldnt decide between what caliber. First I thought about 44 Mag since itd be easy to find the ammo. But I already handload for my BH.45Colt so I didnt really need a 44 magnum. I read about how much power can be developed in a 353 and am leaning in its direction because my dad already loads .357. Plus the ammo would be cheaper than 44 magnum. Im one of those guys that thinks a 357 is good enough for deer with the right bullets. After all when it came out did it not kill deer and things alot bigger like elk and moose?

The 353 is a hoot!!! A gun that will do all the work of the monster calibers on soft skinned game under 5-600 lbs., period.... end of story! I have supplied loads to a few guys that owned 353's and they have taken hogs, goats, whitetails etc... no problem. It is not JUST a 357 magnum!!!! I put 1000's of rounds through mine and had just a slight rounding on the forcing cone area and accurracy and velocities didn't seem to suffer. A load I fired lots of was copious amounts of Blue Dot and 180 grain bullets, gave me over 1700fps, and shoots tiny groups for more people than just me.
If you have a 45 colt that will run at 32,000 cup then by alll means get into a 353. Be warned though at top velocities it will turn small game inside out!!!lol Regards, Steve
