I need some Hogdon 777 FFg advice!
« on: November 14, 2006, 03:01:05 PM »
Please help my cut down on my learning curve here!
I'm not gong to tell you what I'm switching from, since I just dumped it out on the driveway, but I finall went to the store and bought myself a can of Hogdon 777 in FFg.
Can I use this equally well in both my Huntsman .50 with Powerbelts, and in my T/C Hawken with a 209 adapter shooting lead conicals?
Can I use 100 gr. volume equivalent in each as a starting point? And be safe?
There's plenty of room for all of God's creatures -
right next to the mashed potatoes.

Reduce your load using the T7 to equal your old load if you were using 100gr loads I would start about 80grs....when using 209 primers use the new ones designed for T7 or you will have problems with the second shot it forms a "crud" ring that will pay havoc with saboted rounds and even worse with your conicals....I use T7 in my hawkin with 80grs, 240gr conical and  #11 caps works great.

I am very happy with my load of 90 gr 777 and 295 Powerbelt. I have taken 6 shots at 6 bucks, in the last 5 years. All deer went down with the shot. I have folks at the range tell me that they wish their centerfire rifle grouped as well as my huntsman.
May I add that I was as thrilled with this year's 12" spike, as I was with last year's 10 point. This year's shot of 75 yards was the only
opportunity at the buck, as he had winded me. The Huntsman hit right in the white spot of the neck!
