Piglets are good eating too...
« on: November 13, 2006, 11:34:19 PM »
My hunting partner shot a "massive" 20 pounder last Saturday afternoon.   I remarked that he should get a new pair of glasses and take a closer look before shooting next time.  I am rethinking that remark now that the little boar has passed the "BBQ test".

The hams and shoulders were about the size of a pair of large chicken legs.  When skinned my youngest son said that it looked a lot like a bobcat.  The whole butchering process took about 15 minutes, cleanup was a breeze, and I have to say that it was one of the better eating porkers we have had.

With litter mates numbering in the teens, shooting a piglet (or two or three) is a very goog deal as table fare.  If the oportunity presents itself, don't pass it up.

Yum. Clean, skin, and roast them whole.

My wife doesn't want me to bring home anything over 100 lbs (live weight). She likes them at about 80 lbs. So just take 2 or 3.

I took a whole smoked pig to a family dinner last year.  The pig weighed around 20-25# and when I uncovered it for the family to look at, one niece made the comment that it looked like the neighbors dog.  LOL   However it looked like buzzards had been there pretty soon as they picked that rascal clean.  Now they hope I am brining the meat at the family dinners... Those little pigs are very good eating.

I'd love to try dropping one that size into a turkey fryer.
