Range report for stevens 200 in .223

2 words..... tack driver
So anyways, After selling my bushmaster, i realised i wanted a 223 varmint gun that doesn't cost a whole lot.  The gun I got was a stevens 200 in 223.  Cost after shipping and FFL transfer fees were about $276.  Mounted a Nikon buckmaster 4.5-14X40 with side focus on it and let me tell you, even though its only a $250, I love the scope.

I am new to reloading so, I loaded up some hornady 68 gr HPBT under 24.5 grains of varget, I didn't have a crono with me so I have no idea what the FPS was but Im expecting somewhere between 2750-2850.  Took me about 15 rounds to zero it in @ 100 yards and let me tell you, some of them bullets didn't even give me groups, it was like one on top of the other.  Anyways, it was time to test it after sighting

The Test @ 100 yards
I did 6 different groupings, each one was 5 shots with almost no waiting period in between (it was like 35 deg outside, we were all freezing lol)
The smallest group was a little under .5", and the biggest was about an inch.

The Test @ 200 yards
3 different groupings with 5 shots each were made at this point, I was freazing my butt off and my fingers were shaking a lot, my groups weren't so good.  My smallest was just a little over an inch and my biggest was about 2".  But again, this wasn't the gun's fault, it was all me.  Its hard to shoot accuratly when your freezing.

But I totally love my under $300 gun, and now I am planning on buying the same gun in .243.

See if it comes in a 204ruger.  I love mine. Its a CZ model 527 varmint.  Has a set trigger and shoots great.  I think you would enjoy the 204.

it doesn't come in 204.  my choice is either 243 or 7mm-08......i am 99% sure its going to be a 243.  I have no use for the 7mm08 since I own a 308 already.

Don't blame you there.  The 243 is a good choice.  Had one in a Remington 700 vls.  I loved it.  Let me know how the 243 stevens turns out.
