Traditional Hunter firing proiblems
« on: November 11, 2006, 01:25:13 PM »
Howdy,
I posted this on the Gunsmithing forum, but thought I might get some help here.
My 38/55 1885 does not fire reliably. The hammer hangs on the first notch occasionally. Any suggestions why. Had it to the 'smith who got it to work for awhile, but couldn't figure why it did this. Browning was not much help to him. Since it is still malfunctioning, he is going to tear it apart again.
Thanks for looking.

Marty

First question that comes to mind, has it been worked on?? (prior to the problem) TMac on another forum is an expert on these critters and if memory serves me, 2 things, one is a worn part and the other is a spring that has been shortened or "lightened" to reduce trigger pull ?  There was a long post on this on the BPCR forum on MSN. I have one, 38-55 (atually 6 in various cals) and have never had a problem of any kind
