Tikka Scope Mount Trouble
« on: November 04, 2006, 02:37:48 PM »
I've recently purchased a Tikka T3 in 3006.  In comes with it's own rings and scope mounts.  I have been out shooting twice and I can't keep the back mount from creeping forward on the rails. I've tightened it as much as I dare.  I am thinking of purchasing some after market rings to fix this problem and am open to all suggestions.  Am I doing something wrong or should I buy new mounts?

Thanks,

Beanman

I use the factory supplied rings that came with my Tikka t3 .30-06 and have not had any problems. I do know of a quite a few folks that have used these two brands of rings on their Tikka t3's with great results.
Warne (steel rings) Very Strong but heavy,  Talley lightweight 7000 series (aluminum rings) Very Stong and light.
If I ever have a problem with my facory rings I will be getting one of these two, probably the Warne. You may have just got a bad set of rings from Tikka. I wouldn't take any chances with them, just chuck-em and order some good ones. Good Luck to you.

I had no problems with mine but it's a 6.5 swede, recoil is quite tame.I tried the Warne Maxima ,solid and heavy, overkill for a Swede.I now have Tally lightweight. They are the ones I keep.
Drop me a PM if you wish to try the Warne.I can save you some money.BTW medium hight, black finish.

Marylandeer said it perfectly, and those 2 brands of aftermarket mounts are what I use.  You can't go wrong with either, although I prefer the Tally lightweight series (of which I mounted on a .300WSM with no problems whatsoever.)

Forget the factory rings on the Tikka. Poor design will ruin your scope. The 240 degree upper shell does not mate perfectly with the bottom half and takes a bite into your scope tube when clamped down.

I switched to Sako Optilock with the nylon inserts. Somewhat pricey, but they work and stay in place. Get low or xtra low for a 40 mm lens.

I ordered the Talley lightweights last tuesday direct from Talley.  Now if they will just get here in time for my elk hunt on Wednesday.  Looks like I might be using the old M77.  If they show up tomorrow I'll get er done in time.

Thanks for all of your suggestions,

Bean
