groups moving with handi

my handi 223 shoots fairly well, when i do my part, but it seems every time i go out the group has moved, sometimes up to 1". the forearm is floated (o-ring method). i was thinking about maybe glassbedding it. has anyone ever done that? i feel fairly compentant with gun tinkering, having worked on triggers, finished stocks and such so i was thinking about maybe trying to get a glass bed kit and try it myself. any advice?

Glasbedding is easy. I have done a few small projects like yourself and am no means a competent gunsmith. I glasbedded an old mauser I picked up for a hundred bucks a couple of years back and it worked like a dream. Brownells has a kit for under 20 bucks. It has everything you need in it. Good luck with it and you won't be disappointed.

I recommend you read the accurizing tips in the FAQ and Help sticky, there's info on several methods.

I wouldn't overlook the possibility of a bad scope and/or mounting hardware.

Make sure the latch and shelf are dry, H&R's recommendation is that it be dry, storing a rifle with the muzzle up will allow oil from the barrel and bore to run down into the action and on to the latch and latch shelf. Some find that lubing the latch works better for consistency, but most don't, so I'd make sure it's dry until you learn otherwise. If you find oil all over the chamber end of the barrel every time you remove it from the safe, chances are that oil is on the latch shelf too.

I tried the Accra glass bedding from Brownells...and didn't like it at all...and I have bedded a few rifles before...but..if you look in the FAQ'a and see the thread I did on using RTV silicon....It's quite easy...and a whole lot easier to remove it you don't like the results..All barrel & stock prep is still needed....It made my rifle very consistant..
