I got a buck!
« on: October 28, 2006, 07:32:27 PM »
This is the end product of my Project rifle. As some of you know my rifle is a Renegade with a GM SS barrel. The load was a 410 gr Hornady with a 100 gr of Pyrodex select RS.
Today was my 4 day hunting and I was seeing nice deer every day. Several does and small bucks were at less than 30 yards.
Today I passed on severa small 4 pointers and several smaller bucks and does. I saw this buck first thing this morning. He was putting the smooth on a doe. At about 4:30 I got into the area he was at. We were working a ridge on a canyon. This buck walks up out of a canyon and gives me a 100 yard or a little less shot. I got into position to shoot and squeezed the trigger. The bullet hit and threw him to the ground. HE looked like he was done. Then he jumped up and took off running. I reloaded and took off after him. A friend of mine ran down canyon and tried to head him off. I took a running shot and missed. The buck stopped and John took the only shot he had a Texas Heart shot. The bullet hit and broke a hip, but the buck kept going.
He bedded and then got up. I took a 150 yard shot and drove the bullet through his flank to shoulder. He went down into the canyon and was done.
As I write this I am getting ready to head out first thing in the morning to pack him out of the 400 foot deep canyon.
I will add more later.  Ron

Congrats on your buck!
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

In his part of the state, the elk make hay with the deer, thats why the biggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg rack.  In my part of Idaho, we have to check for antlers with 40 power spotting scopes much past 100 yards.

That is some buck!!!!!!! Did you find out where you hit it with the first shot? That bullet should have kept him down for good. It is great to see that you got him in the end.
