New Toy
« on: October 26, 2006, 04:41:38 PM »
I was at a friends gun shop yesterday and lucked into a mod 340 in3030 it was in pretty great shape. It has a super new looking inside barrel Lands and grooves look awsome. I don't think this rifle was shot much. Heck stocl had a few dings but I can live with that. This rifle was made in Chicopee Falls Mass I can't find a serial $ anywhere onthis rifle neither could the dealer.I also found a well used mod 99 in300 savage made at the same plant this one did or I did find serial # on it.I guess yesterday was ole but good time savage day.

For the serial number, look at the chamber end face. Some of the older Savages had their numbers there, stamped into the circumference. Your 340 should have the rotating disc on the rear sight elevator. This is one of the better ones.

Hey thanks flash for the info. It has the rear sight as you stated with a round disc adj.I haven't looked at the chamber face for the serial # but I will. I put the 300 savge 99 in lay-away today got it for 375.00 plus tax. It is missing the rear tang sight and the rear sight as well.Got the brass counter  on the side. It sure will keep my 243 99c company in the safe. I sure do love those older model savages. Makes #8 in my lever action collection. Again thanks for the info.
