new barrel for my ultra varmint
« on: October 24, 2006, 11:52:23 PM »
i bought the ultra varmint model with a black synthetic stock and fluted barrel about a year ago.  i absolutely love it, and i'm disappointed to see that h&r has apparently discontinued its production.   :'(

so, if i want a .243, will the standard bull barrel fit the foregrip of my synthetic ultra varmint?  (so that i can swap between .223 and .243 whenever i like).
When the whole world is crashing down around me, atleast I'll have my SKS.

If you are going by what the website shows, I could see how you would thank that.
But as far as I know the Ultra Varmint Fluted models are selling well, and are still in production. So rest easy there 8)
I am guessing by "foregrip" you mean the Forearm? It should fit just fine. The standard Bull barrels should be the same diameter as the fluted barrels, so no problem.

great!  i might just buy another ultra varmint then   ;D

ha, yeah i meant forearm.  i've never handled any other h&r rifle other than my own, so i wasn't sure if the laminate forearms were held on by the same type/size screw as the synthetic ones.  thanks.

I have a standard bull barrel .223 set up on one of these stock sets and it fits just great. If you want to add the .243 barrel tho, you can just order one thru H&R. They still have the fluted barrels in .243 I think and then you would have a matching set. The customer service numbers are in the FAQ at the top of this forum.

I just visited Precision rifleworks site  http://www.precisionrifleworks.net/index.html  It looks very reasonable and professional. I will probably be doing business there in the near future. It's worth checking out.

It's all good.

NEF/H&R's CS are good to deal with. Very straightforward and to the point, but they will answer any questions you  really need. Come to think of it, most all of them can be answered here as well. I wonder how much phone time is saved from people finding this site and getting answers here rather than tieing up the lines at the factory?
