Mitchell’s Mausers M63 Tanker
« on: October 24, 2006, 01:00:08 PM »
Looking for experienced opinions on the M63 Tanker offered from Mitchell’s Mausers.  I am in search for a bolt action .308 with a fixed magainze and iron sights.  I adore the Mauser action and the Tanker sure looks sweet IMHO.  I realize that Mitchells is not liked by everyone so please just put what expericnce you may have with this rifle.  I will be attending several gun and knife shows in search for one at a good price.  Thanks!

I just read the article in Rifle Shooter Magazine.  It seems to me the Tanker is an attempt to modernize the G33/40, if not exactly atleast in concept.  I too, am giving it lots of thought; but I think its over priced at $499.  Id pass on the "scout scope", atleast the one they offer.  It looks to big for the rifle.  The Germans experimented with the ZF41 during WW2; but that was significantly smaller with pros and cons.

The Tanker is calling my name.  Im leaning to 8mm mostly for historical reasons and a good supply of ammo.  Id like to handle one first before dropping the bucks and being stuck with it when my dealer calls.

Please advise if you get a close look at one.

A local sportings good chain store has a Tanker chambered in 8mm.  The gun points very well for me.  The sights are small, and the stock is too "light" for my tastes- a darker stain would be required for me.  The fit and finish is quite impressive and the action works fairly smooth.  I would buy this rifle if I could find one easly under $300, it is not worth the $499 price Mitchells has on them.
