22-250 Shooters
« on: October 24, 2006, 01:28:43 AM »
I am thinking of getting a 22-250 Handi.  Can someone give me a recommendation on factory ammunition?  I just got a .22 Hornet and this thing is awesome!

kate's..you will probably just have to buy a few boxe's & see what work's best...i shot a box of winchester & 1/2 a box of federal..both in 55 grain s.p. as that's my favored bullet..grouped 2 1/4...2 1/2...then i started reloading for my 250...anyway it's a trial & error thing..those brand's i mentioned may shoot terrific in your 250 if you get one...one brand of ammo may not shoot well in everyone's guns ?? i like my 250....the good new's is there's plenty of factory offering's for that caliber...good luck !!

The 55gr. Remingtons shot 0.75" @ 100yds. out of my 250 the day I took it out of the box.

The WW white box never did work well for me, just to fast I think.

Have fun,

You definitely want to stick with 55gr bullets, 45gr were very finicky. The Winchester white box shot OK, but not great. I got my best groups from 55gr Remington Core-lok's I could shoot a consistant 1" group and sometimes a little better at 100yrds.

Rem.50's shot well in mine, but it really came alive when I loaded some 40 gr. B.T.'s with IMR 4064. It shot 1/2" groups until the barrel got real loose on the reciever.  Digger

Can't tell ya which factory ammo to use, but I can say the Rem green and white box 45gr JHP don't shoot too good, 1-1½" is the best it would shoot in mine, but 50gr Vmax and H4895 shoot excellent if you handload.

Yep, hand loading is the way to go. There are so many good recipes for the 22-250 that will give high velocity and accuracy!!
