Give it the empty chamber test. With the chamber empty and the rifle cocked, put on the safety, squeeze the trigger, let off the safety. If it goes click you got a problem. Repeat the is ten or so times. Then just to check your trigger, leave the rifle cocked, try bumping the rifle butt on the floor several times and see if it goes click. If it does your trigger needs work. I even go so far as to take a rubber mallet and tap around on the rifle, trigger gaurd and where ever my fancy dictates, listening for that click.
