stevens 200
« on: October 20, 2006, 10:46:44 AM »
I bought a stevens model 200 about half a year ago and had some work done on it, I am reloading 175 grain hpbt moly coated out of it and had the trigger pull lightened up quite a bit. @ 200 yard i can hold about 9/16ths to a 5/8ths group has anyone else had these good of results and can it be better also this is silhouette shooting, I am very pleased in this gun also the caliber is 308

Is everything else factory?   Pics?

I am thinking on buying a 200 and turn it into a custom lightweight.

I recently purchased a 200 in .308 and while I have not shot it over 100 yards (with my old eyes I am lucky to even see that far) I am very pleased with its accuracy.  The 200s have almost convinced me to get out of the Handi Rifle business (heresy, heresy).  I am looking to get a .223 next.

the stevens got me out of the handi business. More gun for the buck, better accuracy. More shells and a whold lot better gun. I had 8 handi's, now none.

I have been looking at the Handi's and Rossi's and it seems the better value is the Model 200. I have handled all of these guns at Gander Mountain and yes the stock is ugly and the plastic has sharp edges and it has a blind magazine but I have done a search on the web for reviews of the Model 200 and I could find no complaints about it's accuracy. Only good things. I believe Rifle Basix makes a trigger assy for this rifle and maybe a few others. I think you could buy this rifle for around $300 add an $85 trigger kit to it and have accuracy as good as the Savage with AccuTrigger and probably several other rifles costing several hundred more. The action seemed to work as smoothly as most of the others at GM.

I bought one from Gander Mtn. 2 weeks ago and have been very pleased with its performance. I got it in 7mm-08 and have been feeding it with the 140 grain Federal Fusions and it is very accurate. Haven't had the opportunity to try it in the field on a deer, but the thing is very comfortable to tote and really cycles nicely. I hope that they are successful and prompts Savage to offer in more calibers. 257 Roberts or .260 Rem PLEASE! ;D

Accutriggers make the rifle safer, not more accurate. The worst trigger in my gun safe is attached to a Type 38 Arisaka parts gun. I can't measure the pull with my fish scale, but with the barrel mounted peep, it shoots as good as most rifles with scopes.  ;D

I have a 200 in .308 and it is great.  Only thing I have done is add a decent recoil pad to it. Took two deer this season with it at anout 100 yards and as small as they were it had to shoot good. ::)
