Are the new SB 2 made with tighter clearances? I read about the engagement lug neading heavier springs and such, I have one of these with the, I think Choate stock? are these stocks designed diffenrent to enhance accuracy?

We'd like to think so, that's been one of our major requests on H&R wish lists, better QC in general. They also improved the strength of the SB2 frames in 1999, that's the start year for any high pressure barrel fitting of their accessory barrels. I still add a stronger spring set to the latch on barrels that I want to shoot heavy loads in, they could do the same with little increase in cost. Most everyone that's bought 2005 and 2006 models have reported excellent triggers, too.
All of H&R's synthetic stocks are made by Choate, which one are you referring to? Probably the Varmint since you have an Ultra rail. If so, yes, the forend is ideal for using a bipod and is easy to float.
