Iron Sight Options?
« on: October 14, 2006, 06:27:29 PM »
Are there many sighting options for the Iron Sighted Handy Rifles?  I'd appreciate knowing what you folks use, and might suggest.  I'm not much of an optics man m'self, and definitely prefer open sights.  Thanks,

Tim

See the FAQ and Help stick, there's a link in there to peep and firesights showing aperture rear sights. The standard factory barrel sight is a Williams WGOS.

Thanks for the input....going to take a look right now  ;D.
If I'm not careful, I could end up dreaming of a different one of these for each day of the week  ::).

Leavergun, what i did with my sb-2 is put a TCA pistol sight which is adjustable for both W&E far back as i could get it over the receiver. On the front i put a Williams long ramp with a hood. This gives a nice long sight picture. This takes a little drilling&tapping for the 6-48 screws. Not to hard to do.I like open sights also.If i can`t hit something at 100 yds i`ll quit shooting!

Levergun 94 you may know all about this but just in case others do not here goes:

Under certain conditions (low light) a hood on the front site will not allow you to see the post.

My buddy and I both had Marlins and his was not scoped. I told him about reading something that said, "If possible remove the hood." (due to above problem) He didn't.

A year later a he missed his deer because he simply could not see the front sight of his gun.

I have one rifle with the hood I cannot or do not want to remove so I guess I'm warning myself too. And I plan on using it this fall for deer.

Anyway...just a tip and obviously the new fire sights on the market avoid this problem.

Front site on old 1943 military rifle shows hole drilled directly over post to assist in seeing post. Poor man's red paint applied on post.
