Just Bought a 280 Handi
« on: October 13, 2006, 01:39:36 PM »
Im new to this sight, and i just bought a 280 Handi from tha local pawn shop for 175. Ive heard its supposed to be one of the better calibers as far as accuracy, but my question is concerning recoil, would it be too much for my twelve year old son used to shooting a 260 browning.  Thanks guys, and any advice is welcome

according to the Chuck Hawks rifle recoil table, a 260 has roughly 14 lb-ft of recoil energy. a 280 has roughly 17 lb-ft. not an overly significant difference. get a slip on limb saver recoil pad if it is too much for him.

I just bought one and the recoil is not too bad. If your son has been shooting the 260 and is comfortable with it, then the step up should'nt be too bad. Just make sure that he does not develop a flinch.
