Forward Mount Scope
« on: October 13, 2006, 06:53:44 AM »
I see that ruger is pushing a rifle set up for forward mount scope.

Has anybody found a scope with extended eye relief that could be mounted just in front of the
hammer on a handy?

That would fix one of the handi problems.

If its not to much to ask, under $100

You mean like this? This is a Simmons 2.5x20(shotgun) on a 45-70. There are others. Or you could do a Scout scope and mount. By doing a search you will find some suggestions.

I also did the exact thing MT shows above. Same scope but extra lo rings and I LIKE the Weaver 82 base for this. Its longer and allows he scope to be mounted farther forward. I just cut a new rear slot in the correct position. The Simmons 2.5 shotgun scope has more eye relief and is shote so its a perfect match for this set-up.

It works out so the rear most part of the scope is FLUSH with the breech of the barrel when opened!!  Nice and lo, a very clean setup.
