Tikka $629
« on: October 10, 2006, 11:19:46 AM »
The gun store that I use wants $629 for Tikka T3 Hunter in 6.5x55.  This seems way high reading others' posts.  I really like the rifle, but was expecting $550 for the price.  The CZ American is $550...but the Tikka looks to be a better rifle.  Too much?  What is a current real world price?

The dealer said that it was hard to find in that caliber but Sports South or whoever he uses had 3 currently.  Bottom line is that I want the rifle.  I just think that it is $80 too much.  What has anyone else paid regardless of caliber?

A few months ago Marks Outdoors in Birmingham, AL had ALL Tikka T3 blued for $399.99 and stainless for $499.99.

Yes, it's a little high.....Might look around but hey, if you like it then buy it........maybe the difference in price will be made up in things like customer service......It's hard for the little guys to compete on price alone.  Also, by the time you pay the FFL fee's to ship the rifle that $80 is probably going to be $30..........and you won't get to see the rifle until it get there......

Have you made an offer or asked for a discount?

It is true that the 6.5x55 cartridge in harder to find in the Tikkas...BUT that doesn't necessarily mean that you should pay more for it.

I would negotiate with the guy.  He should compromise.  After all, he's got the highest price; he has a lot of room to drop the price and be fair.

Tell him that he can make a livin' but not killin'  ;)

This is one of the few independent gunstores that I go to.  The service is great.  I really don't mind paying a premium, just not that much of a premium.  I was going to get the price at Bass Pro and a couple of places in Dallas just to have the info.  VictorCharlie has some good points.  Looking at it first is one of the reasons why I want to buy there.  I haven't made a counter offer, but figured that I would after I get the prices elsewhere.

Someone on the internet (elsewhere) said that the dealer cost is $479.  If that is true $629 is way out there.  Comparing Remington MSRP to prices that I have paid I have been charged around 73% of MSRP.  $629 on the Tikka's MSRP of $764 is 83%.  Maybe that is apples and oranges.

This isn't the blued and wood version, but it falls much more in line with what you were looking to pay.  On top of that price, you will have to pay shipping and the FFL transfer fees, but it should still come out cheaper than $629 if your gunshop will not adjust the price.

Bass Pro in Shreveport was $679 for the T3 Lite..........What the crap?

The guy at Bass Pro was killing me:
I am looking for a Tikka T3 Hunter
A 300?  300 what?
A Tikka T3 HUNTER
A what?
A TIKKA T3
Oh, a 300, what brand?
TIKKA
Okay, a Tikka 300 Win Mag in black/stainless is $679
Thanks for your time.

Are Tikkas just unpopular to the point of expensive in the South?

I just bought a T3 Hunter in .30-06 from Gander Mountain for $599.  Might be worth checking if they could order the 6.5.  Rev
