well im new to handi - rifles, and just picked up a H&R .410.. but i do have a few other guns,.. with the exception of my CCW pieces i call my long guns my huntin' sticks... thats right, "huntin' sticks"  .. i dunno, i'm not that creative i guess, lol .

I have some nicknames for mine sometimes,but I can't put them on this website.Especially when they fail to eject,or the transfer bar falls out in my hand. :D :D :D :D :D :D  Digger

None of my Handis have drawn blood yet, but I have a couple names in mind for when the time comes!! ;D Killsmdead and Makes Meat, (hopefully!!!)for starters.

I have not named mine yet either.  Leaning towards "Whopper", because of the sound the 32 gr VMax makes when it smacks a prairie dog.

 I noticed a thread here where people are naming their guns. If I get my 308 issues resolved I'll call it " Ye Olde Tackdriver" if not then the moniker will be "The one hit wonder".

Right now i only have names for 2 of my handi's , ihe 45/70 is Thumper and the 223 is my GOTO Gun . I take that back my 450 Marlin is that Pain in the Azz gun , i still have yet to find a load that it will shoot well .  :(

I thought about it and my handi 223 should either be my goto yote gun or the yotethumper. Both names certainly fit this rifle....

One I call by the name of an old high school girl friend. Short, cute, low maintenance and always ready to ... go out on a date. (Of course my wife has no idea where the name come from.)

I don't have a nickname for mine, but dad has a nickname for his, it is named after an x-wife. I asked him why he named it that and he said that the first time it opened it's mouth something died.....

Greeetings from Georgia,

   I have named all of my guns. Some are plain, some sentimental and a few quite silly. As for the Handi's they are as follows: 


1.  .308 Ultra A.K.A. "My Little Buddy"

2. very old 30-30 A.K.A. "Bill"

3. .44 Mag. A.K.A. "Burtis"

4. ,17 HMR A.K.A. "Sting"

5. .280 A.K.A. "7mm Terminator"

6. .22 Hornet A.K.A. "the AntiYote"

7. 45-70 A.K.A. "Thump"

8. .243 A.K.A. "Cracker"

      I am contemplating the purchase of a few barrels an the near future and they will each have a name as soon as they are shot and I see what type personality they have. I think that naming guns is a good thing as it adds character and some personality to a wood and steel tool.

I only have one of my H&R/NEF's named at this time and some of you old timers here have probably heard me speak of it, my short and "Handi" 19" barrelled .280 is "Thunderboomer"....<><.... :) :) :)


After reading some of the fine names above I am inclined to start calling my 45/70 "Thumper" and my .17 HMR "Stinger" as well as calling my .17 Mach2 "Stinger Two", I hope those above don't mind.....<><.... :)

Thank you my friend, Tim. I have another name for the other one "Yammer" but I never listen to it. Their names are used interchangeable, suiting the circumstances.
They are such a lovable pair.

20ga Ultra Slug Hunter = SLUGGER

.50 cal. Huntsman = HAMMER

.223 Ultra Varmint = 'YOTE BUSTER

20ga N.W.T.F. Topper Jr Classic J.A.K.E.S. (sons) = Lil THUMPER

.410 Pardner (daughters) = Lil PARD

I have a 20ga Tracker II barrel in the mail as we speak that I haven't named yet. Maybe = SLAMMER or DUECE or OUCH! ;D


I even have a name for one that isn't even made yet. Like a 12ga Muzzleloader barrel for the Huntsman or Sidekick = TURKEY THUMPER

I've only named 2.  The Shikari 45-70 is Thumper, the 45-70 with the 18 in barrel is Shorty.  Sometimes I call the 7.62X39 the Commie Whisper, but it hasn't stuck yet.
