.475 recoil hurting my trigger finger.
« on: October 05, 2006, 04:33:14 PM »
My 83 in .475 is causing my trigger finger to bleed. It's the sharp machined edges of the trigger gaurd, I think. I wonder if it would be ugly to lightly champher the edges with emory paper? Has anyone had a similar problem?
Shooting gloves don't cover enough of that finger to help-I've tried.

I've resorted to a patch of Mole Foam held on with a band aid.

I have used the banage trick, and it works OK but I would like a permanent fix. I think I will wrap some 320 grit around a dowell and have a go at it.
Thanks,

Marsh.

I solved my problem with a pair of soft leather riding gloves, Using only the shooting hand glove works great. I got tiered of coming home with tears in my eyes after a days shooting. What ever it takes to pursue the passion without the pain. Have a good day of shooting.......Joe........

Do you fish?
I do - and my old neoprene waders solved my problem.

I made a ring of neoprene for my finger - and avoided to do "gunsmithing" - and I avoid to fill up my pocket with gloves - and you can have a ring in every pistolbag, shootingjacket etc..

(You can make 1000`nds of rings from a retired wader - and can act like Mother Theresa  ;) at the shooting range - because I assume that you are not the only one who have the "finger-problem")

I've got the same problem with my 475. It seems the bottom end of the trigger and inside of trigger guard get me. The angles in those locations are rather abrupt, they really need to radius them off more. For now I'm going to use a leather shooting glove or maybe a driving glove.  Then later, after hunting season, I'm going to check with FA and see if they can or are willing to refinish a field grade. If they can, I'm going to radius off all of the offending edges and send it back to be refinished.

Shilo, I'm going to radius mine but will not send it back. All you need do is use some Scotch Brite to get the original finish back.

Marsh1, Do you have a field grade or the premier grade?

Premier, but it doesn't matter. Get an assorment of the pads and one of them should put your finish back.

Marsh1, the field grade has a bead blast finish. I don't think it can be duplicated with a scotch brite pad. ??

Well, perhaps you're right. I'm certainly no expert. I was just trying to save you having to send it off. Isn't the part to be radiused just the very edge of the trigger guard? Seems such a small area wouldn't need much.

Marsh1, thanks for the advice. Anything I do, I think, is going to be fairly visable compared to the matte finish of the rest of the gun. I could radius the trigger and then polish the whole trigger. Got to do something. The recoil while heavy isn't what hurts; it's the sharp edges digging into my fingers.
