Tactical pocket folder
« on: October 05, 2006, 04:22:41 PM »
Hello all,

I'm looking for a good tactical folder to carry while on duty (police).  I prefer the type of blade with partial serrations.  I know most of the big names, but just thought I'd throw this out and see what suggestions you guys have.  I’m looking for something that is easy to open one handed, has a pocket clip, and a blade length of about 3”.  I have been carrying a Gerber E-Z-Out for a few years.  I’m happy with it, but I know there are better ones out there.

Thanks,
RW

I know absolutely nothing about carrying/using a tactical folder as a Policeman.  However, this month's Tactical Knives has an article called "The Tactical Backup" where they discuss police tactical knives vs utility knives.  For tacticals the two police instructors favor those from SOG(Trident), Emerson, Benchmade and the Kak-Bar TDI's.

Not a cop here---but the best I've found for price/value/function are the Benchmade Gripitilian and Mini Griptilian AND the Spyderco Endura and Delica series.

I own at least one of each and like the Griptilian and Endura the best-----I find the Delica and Mini Grip a bit too small.

Heloo!  I am a cop and a knifer, so to speak.  The Ryan Model seven is a grea knife, it's tactical and it doesn't have that "scary" look, in case the Chief sees it.

I'm not a police office but if I was it would be a Benchmade automatic Axis lock with 440C steel. They will only sell to polce and military,if I were one of those I would have to get one.

Don't overlook the Ontario  XM folders...

I live about 4 miles from the Ontario plant and the Pres of Ontario, Bob Breton is a personal friend.

Ontario provides most of the blades for the military, which includes ALL the blades for the Marine Corps (yes, even the current "K-Bar").
Last fall they got an inspection and review by DOD...a good score by any DOD supplier would be 91-92 %..their score was an unheard of 100%...
Bob gave my grandson (a Spec Ops Marine) the first ever ASEK knife issued to any military personell, before he deployed last year. Well actually, it was gifted, not issued...but it still served him well while raiding "safe houses" and killing/capturing terrorists near Ramadi, in Al Anbar..

He treasures that knife and plans on a lifelong use of it..starting with another deployment..come early Spring.
