Pics of recovered .338 & .416 bullets
« on: October 14, 2006, 09:56:23 AM »
These were recovered against the hide on the offside of my 2006 bull mooose (west central Alberta).

The first bullet is a 225gr Nosler Partition, .338WM that hit the bull in the stomach (my hunting partners bullet). Typical partition performance with the lead blown off the nose of the bullet; usually Nosler's have a bit more of the lead left then this though. Not much left of this one.

The second is a 400gr Hornady IL from my .416RM that hit the spine dead center, blew up the spine and then travelled the rest of the way to stop on the hide. I think this is pretty impressive considering it hit that thick bone in the spine.

The .338WM and .416RM are fine moose calibers.  :)

damn... shows how tough some moose are, even a 416 RM didn't exit even thought it probebly woun't have if it hit the hide, but still.... ....  Im pretty sure the result would have been the same if that 338 win mag would have hit in the same spot the 416 did...do you have a picture of that moose ?

Yep. Love the rifle. It's about 10.5 lbs with the scope, a real nice shooter.
