problem with a pt 132 millenium...
« on: September 11, 2005, 07:47:16 AM »
This thing has been randomly jamming cartridges between the slide and the barrel since it was new.  Still is, actually--there have probably been less than 100 rounds fired in it total.

When the cartridge leaves the clip, it seems to hang just as it enters the chamber, getting pinched as the slide moves forward into it.  Consequently, the slide doesn't move all the way forward and the breach doesn't close.

I can't get the pistol to repeat this while working the slide manually, unless I slowly work the slide (jams every time) or don't allow the slide to travel all the way back (same result).

I did notice, however, that the last two clips i shot through it didn't kick the slide open after the last shot like it should have.  I'm thinking maybe the slide isn't traveling all the way back when the gun jams.  If that is the case, I think maybe the recoil spring is too stiff.  Do y'all agree with that logic?  Maybe I can just trim a bit off the spring and fix it...

BTW, the gun IS clean and oiled, and I have always used round nose ammunition (which, i've been told, should never jam).

I feel like i just wrote a book--sorry, i'm a bit frustrated right now.
When the whole world is crashing down around me, atleast I'll have my SKS.

I suggest buying a new factory mag and trying it.  if the problem goes away send the original mag back for a replacement.

Factory? Handloads? If handloads, get a couple boxes of factory, clean/lub firearm, clean mag, shoot. If factory, suspect magazine. I know it should not be this way, but many semis need several hundred rounds thru them before you will know what you have. All Taurus semis that I have seen shot great right out of the box.
