Putting wine in water to prevent freezing is very ill advised.  The alcohol will immediately start to dehydrate you, as your kidneys and liver need to take water out of your blood stream to filter it.  The more you drink, the more thirsty and dehydrated you will become.  You might as well be drinking sea water.

Mike my truck is my work truck most of the time so that is why it is so loaded. I keep a 48 gt cooler on the back year round ( get pulled every so often as I have a floor mounted tool box that keeps the cooler up in view and cops tell me that a white work truck is their #1 profile vehicle on fri and sat night for drunk drivers . They always come up with some BS as to why they pulled me then ask what's in the cooler , I always say if you are asking as a fishing expidition get a warrant but if you want a bottle of water help yourself.) ( yea one got a warrant , then ask if I had nothing to hide why bother to which I said if you had nothing why bother  ;) ). Anyway the cooler even with ice in it won't let the water completely freeze most of the time even when the temp. is in the teens. When it does get ice in it I place a couple on the dash to thaw.
Another trick I use is a flask , got a real heavy one that looks like a whisky flask but made out of the same stuff a military canteen is , same color. I fill it with water and keep it in a chest pocket on my coat/jacket. I got one to try while hunting as it was compact , held 16 ozs and did not look like a huge rinestone on the deer stand when sun light hit it. They are easy to fill and carry out as you go to your truck.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Short barreled mosin nagant.  Cheap gun, cheap ammo.  The bark and bite will all but a few sticking around after you set it loose.

Short barreled Mosin-Nagant?  Haven't seen but a couple of those cut down and sporterized, but I have seen seen several .303British S.M.L.E.'s (in whatever mod and MK each was) that sometimes showed promise for a travel or truck gun.

I seriously was looking for and Indian Ishapore .308Win SMLE to modify for use as a truck gun.  The idead that if found at a roud block the "beater gun" wouldn't look as dreadful and evil as a black riffle, but would still in the venerable SMLE-bolt design (that served the Brits well for 80-90 years!), but in the .308 round as well.

Expenses and opportunities didn't pan out!  :'(   But methinks that'd still make a helluva platform if a fellow really needed it!  (as would the 7.62X54R ammo if properly selected for whatever environment it was needed - in the West and not just the East or South).

I also considered getting a para-version of the SKS for such a role as well, and also the KelTec SU-16C.  (never could resolve my hesitation with the SU-16)

Decided instead to stick with a 10mm Glock and a couple .22LR's.  ;)
