+1 on the 223. The 357 is a great woods gun, but it's range is not it's strong point. 223 easily reaches 200+yrds, the 357 will too but it will huff and puff the whole way and will loose power fast. In 223 you can load soft points for yotes and deer, ballistic-tip for pests, and FMJs for the stew meat (squirrel and rabbit). FMJs shouldn't do as much meat damage on small game, especially with a head shot. Ammo is also really cheap for the 223 compared to other cartridges with similar reach.
