.32 H&R and .327 are rimmed and would (if chamber is cut deep enough) interchange easily.  The .32acp head spaces on the case mouth and has a critical length chamber that excludes shooting the longer cartridges.

So, are these glue / solder in, or are they removable where you can put the insert in and take it out when you want the shotgun back.

the 32 acp actually has a tiny rim, it works. the whole insert slides in and out with the ejector but i havent had one of these long inserts fly out. I have had that with the 4 inch inserts I have. he puts a nice crevice groove at the shell so your finger nail can get in there to pop out the casing.

I would be VERY interested in a 12ga to .32ACP say 6 to 10 ins long. always liked quiet without a silencer. Interference fit would be better then cut for a .223 extractor, then al the way out to 18 to 22 ins for noise reduction er flash hider!

Larry made me a really cool 22 Hornet insert for a 12ga, works excellent and even ejects the spent round, maybe your guy could make some mods to his to eject. I tested it in my USH, very accurate with a scope, and I just tried it in my Model 1908 H&R, it even works in it, although I didn't shoot any ammo, just fired a piece of primed brass to make sure it functions in it, the nice thing about my M1908 is it has a peep sight on it for turkey hunting, I'll have to check it to see how far off the sights are for the insert, I could always Kentucky a varmint!  :D

Curious about how to build one fast and cheap, I took a piece of 303 British barrel about 8 inches long to start with.  These barrels are a dime a dozen and you can get about 3 inserts out of each one.  I chucked it up in the lathe and turned it so it will fit in a 20 gauge barrel.  At the breach end I turned 3/4 inch down for a press fit into a piece of 410 barrel I had sitting here to use for the fake case head and rim.  Used a .003 interference fit and drove the barrel into the 410 barrel.  Cut that off, faced the end, cut a V groove in the breach at the junction and silvered it in place.  Total time now about 30 minutes.  Back in the lathe, cut the rim and part of the chamber diameter on the sleeve over the barrel, then ran in a 327  Federal reamer to .680 for a 32 ACP, time now about 1 hr 40 minutes.  Drank too much to continue, so tomorrow I will cut the rim and shoot it, probably another 40 minutes I would say, then an hour to parkerize it and it is done.  I will post some pictures.  Not fancy like Quicks, but I bet it shoots, and you only need some very basic lathe skills, don't even need to cut threads.  Larry

Hi Larry, do you think those .303 barrels would be a good donor for a .30 Cal Carbine round? Also do you think accuracy might be better if the insert was a bit longer? Perhaps 12" to 16"? Perhaps overkill, but what about a full length insert with a nut on the muzzle end to hold the insert snugly in the barrel?....<><....:)

iLL bet he could. right now hes lacking certain reamers. And he says he needs to get money together to buy a small tool postgrinder, he says hell be able to grind his three jaw chuck in true, and shouldcut his production time by at least 30%.

I can see us having quite a few more uses for our old shotgun barrels.

Oldsoldja, I would be interested in one in 32 HR. Could he do one for a 410? Seems it would ble a little lighter than a 20 ga.
he said he will think about the 410, and check the specs and let us know.

It aint all that bad to true a 4 jaw to -0- TIR and, in my experience, a 3 jaw 'ground in' wont likely be true at different diameters due to scroll wear.
The biggie is having an 'outboard' spider to keep the tail end true through the spindle, and thus avoid 'wobble' at the tool end, unless he's using a steady rest out front and working there.

the whole insert slides in and out with the ejector but i havent had one of these long inserts fly out. I have had that with the 4 inch inserts I have.

this one won't fly out*grins*(attached pic)
In fact it has to be pulled out, as the ejector only pulls it out to the length of the ejector stroke.
By the same token it has to be thumb pressed in too.

And it's nice to meet other folks that actually like the handi-rifles, as most folks I know here laugh at me when I take a single shot to deer camp.

Welcome zoot, just laugh back when that deer is hanging from the pole. And look at them and ask "you shot it how many times".
an unloaded wepon is equal to the same mass and volume as a rock.

I'd be really interested in an 18" .45 ACP insert for a 20 gauge if he is doing any.

I do, believe me, sometimes several times in a season for the last twenty years.*L*
That's not to say that I don't have or bring along some of the brady bunches worst nightmares, but instead to say that I "like" my single shot rifles, and I can see no better use for them than to take them up a tree in the winter, or down in the swamp.
Folks might think this is crazy, but carrying a singleshot rifle seems to make it easier to get into "woods time" where everything seems to live in slow motion, versus "human rat race time" where hurry is the name of the game.

It isn't too bad dialing a 4 jaw in once or twice, but when you're dialing it in 50-60 times a day it gets to be time consuming and bothersome.
