Fred's wife owns the 4D Reamer Rental business. I suspect if she's in MT he is as well but do not really know that. At one time for a short time he advertised the Reamer Rental business here. He kept the advertising one year only then declined to renew and got all upset with me when I advised him I and my Moderators would no longer be pushing the business here since he wasn't an advertiser. He seemed to think I should keep it a secret that he no longer supported the site and seemed to think we should continue to support him as well.

Other than that I've had no personal negative experiences with Fred and still hold no hard feelings for him. I know nothing of his custom rifle business really. Still I suspect the "nice lady" might be his wife. I don't know that tho.

My only experience with Z-Hat was to talk on the phone and order the reloading book.  My interest was in the .264 Hawk but after reviewing the case dimensions I simply went with a 6.5mm-06AI which should have a slightly larger case capacity due to the shoulder being moves forward and steepened to 40 degrees.

Krieger got the job back in February and I was given an expected delivery time of late October.  I called a few days ago and it is in "final inspection".  I sent off a check and expect the rifle in a week or so.

The rifle is configured as follows:
* Interarms Mark X standard-length action (NIB)
* Timney trigger
* Stainless, heavy sporter, fluted, 1-8 twist, 24", 6.5mm-06AI barrel with "Coyote hunter" engraved with the chambering
* Pillar bedded
* Boyd 'JRS' pepper laminate stock

Now I'm going to need to find scope bases and rings and a scope....

The 240 Z-Hat Hawk - is it like a 24-06 (or 24-280) ????

How's 240 ZHH (cartridge/rifle) compare to catalog/stock 240 Weatherby items?

Fred is an honest man, I have spoke to him several times about my big bore African rifle I wanted worked on. Now he has never forgot to return my phone calls. I pray he is A-OK and working fast!

Coyote Hunter that has to be one slick looking rifle! I turned my model 70 Winchester pre-64 over to my son and made myself a 6.5/06 also. I love the gun a bit more, as it has greater potential for big game verses the 1/4 bore 06. This new one is also on a model 70 per-64 action. Now when you get that rifle back, please do show it off by giving us all a look ok.  ;D 8)

Hi Guy's,
I don't post much anywhere but, just wanted to say that I talked to Fred yesterday. I had called to ask him a couple of questions about a project that I have coming up. That was Monday. He was in a meeting then so I told his wife no problem. Just ask him to call when He got around to it.

Have talked to him many times. I only rent reamers but, I have done a lot of rifles and he has helped me out of a couple of binds. His advise and knowledge is most welcome and it has been given freely. I have not had a rifle built by him because I do most of my own work so, I can't say anything other than I think he is a good guy. Darn few of those left in this day and age.

Good luck on the 95 By the way is number has changed. It's listed on his web site.

Mike

Tonk -

Here is a picture and a link to a write-up I did after my first trip to the range.  Needless to say, I'm very happy with the rifle.

The write up is here:

I have a couple of projects I would like to get started but I am running out of room and this is the wrong time of the year to start such tasks. Those Upland birds need to be tended too and dogs need exercise as well. Looks like they did you a grand job on that rifle. :)

 well, I guess you could say my my Z- Hat issues are over ... after all the problems
and everything else. He finally built my rifle. yes I received my 1895 back re-barreled
in 358 Hawk. and I will admit the workmanship is everything I have heard about
Z-Hat. and while I'd love to give a range report that will have to wait till I can find
a set of dies, yes Z-Hat again has dropped off communications and when he sent the rifle
niether did he test fire it, or send a set of dies. so with all I have invested and 4+ years
of waiting I have wall hanger. is he a piece of crap or what ???? but I do have my rifle back.

 so anyone with a set of 358Hawk dies I'd love to buy them ... till then I guess it will make
a great looking club !!!!!

I'M sorry !!! was this spot taken ????
