what era are the flat rear 110's from ?
« on: June 26, 2010, 06:47:26 AM »
I just bought a little 110 in .243 Win. with a Trashco sorry no pics, had plenty of opportunity but man is it hot. get soakin wet just going outside. I shot it yesterday morning after working all night and couldn't do better than 2" with some rem 100 gr coreloct ammo the seller threw in with the deal. I had a 700 out there too and it didn't do much better. I was too hot and too tired...
the 110 has a little more barrel than the 700 (MTN LSS) and I couldn't shoot either one too fast, they got hot in a hurry. I am pretty concious to the overbore of the .243 and that little dude warms up quick.

I was getting an honest >2900 out of that factory ammo and the bolt was a little sticky sometimes, primers looked good though. I think remington takes this load to the edge. Any way I'm getting ready to load up some 80gr speer softpoints.

when I bought the gun the scope was canted and I had to take it off and back on about a million times. I'm not a big fan of the Kwik site mounts at this point.

any way do you know how long the flat rear was made or when it stopped, just trying to date the gun, I reckon its probably an 80's or 90's, it has a normal trigger which ain't bad...I'm thinking this little dude will be a shooter, wish I had a good redfield one piece base and some good glass on it and maybe clear out the barrel channel a little more.

Savage changed over to a round receiver rear in 2003, when they introduced the Accutrigger.

According to my research, Savage 10s have been made since 1959, the first year they introduced the short action.  Long action Savage 110 began production in (I think) 1956.  Numerous design changes have been made over the years and those individual changes might help date your rifle.  Additionally, the Savage is very amenable to tinkering and customization, which further complicates dating an individual rifle.

SO, your Savage was built sometimes between 1959 and 2003.  Still, they're great rifles and they're very susceptible to tinkering and customization.

thanks man I had bought a 6mm 788 for my 6 yo last year and got really turned on by the 6mm/.234 thing so I bought this rifle to shoot up.  Its my first savage (besides a couple 99's I've had forever) and I'm diggin the versatility potential with the barrel nut and all.   Its cool that I have a long action too, leaves more possibilities for later on!

I loaded up those 80 gr last night with 43 gr of RL22.  I'm eager to try them out, they should be movin and I have a hunch the gun will like them better than the 100's.

I'd love to have that EGW picatinny base.

and a really nice stock...and a 6mm rem fluted barrel...... ;D

Mine was definately right up to the end on that type.  It's the flat rear no-accutrigger model.  I bought it in 2003 right as a they were still selling out the old non-accutrigger models.

I only paid $350 for the package with scope and mounts though (I replaced all that right after I got it, but that scope has sat on a my Ruger 10/22 for several years now).  Seems like they've gone up quite a bit more than that in the last 7 years.
