Question about wood stock set
« on: February 22, 2010, 01:08:23 PM »
Was just down on the Ole Pot-Bellied Stove forum talking about kids and it kind of got me down so i had to come up and talk about guns a while to pick me back up.

The question is I just bought a NIB Handi on Gunbrokers (haven't got it yet) but while looking at the pic I noticed that the wood seemed to have some blotches of lighter wood in it.
Could this be a plain LAM stock on it?

Yup, looks like what is commonly called laminated pallet wood, they were fairly common a few years ago, my new 2004 204 Ruger Handi came with one.

That's what got me to take another look at the stocks on the one I just bought.
If the ones for sale weren't youth I would have taken them and not even thought about the ones on my gun.

Not sure what laminate stocks are. But the grain coloring looks like one I have. Mine was one of the generic camo stocks they sale(green with black spots). I sanded it down. Was shocked what they were hiding. Here is 2 picts. They are the same stock in different light.

Your right, 50 it is + the one I have coming and another 45 colt barrel coming also.
I will most likely sell the 22-250 barrel when it gets here to have an extra frame to put the 45 colt on if it fits close.

I seem to have this problem, (yea I know I have a lot of problems), with when I find a couple of guns I like then I have to try and collect the whole set.
Makes them worth a little more maybe whenever I die and the kids decide to sell them all.

Come on Tim, there has to be some you don't have.

There are several I don't have, 7.62x39, 450M, 22 Jet, and lots of shotguns to name a few, just don't feel the need for more rifles that I'll never shoot, actually going the other way and considering selling some of the duplicates or upgrading those that I have like I'm doing with one of my 243 Superlights to 260 Rem, nothing floats my boat right now tho.  ;)

That 7.62 is still on my list also.

Some of the odd re-chambers are the reason for several of the duplicates.
30-30 to 307
22 Hornet to 221
500 to 499HE
BC to 120
Maybe a few others as time goes on.
I do like odd calibers.
I think I need to search for that list we started about what chambers will clean up to what.
Still on the bench about the stubs.
They seem to work, or at least no one has blown themselves up yet.

I don't have the 7.62x39 and 450M by choice,  I've had opportunity to buy both several times, but never really wanted either of them, at one time I wanted a Jet, was bidding on one on ebay, but when it went over $200 just for a barrel, I decided I didn't want it that bad, I had even bought a die set so I could reload for it if I was successful, but never got one.  Wally(mt3030) stumbled on a Topper Jet, so I sold him the die set....then he went an got hiself killed on a motorcyle.  :'(

Tim:

I checked the help and FAQs for that re-chamber cleanup topic but all i came up with was the H&R/TC Rechambering Chart.
Any help on this one?

That's the only one that I'm aware of, there have been many discussions on rechambering and what will clean up,  but I don't think they got into the FAQs.  :-\

I've been a member of AmmoGuide for years, renewals for existing members is $12.95, a considerable break from the normal subscription rate.  ;)
