« on: November 02, 2009, 05:20:57 PM »

Still shoots as it is as the broken off bit donesn't fall though the firing pin hole.. EEErrrrrhhh Arrrhhh.

Whats the best way to knock one up ??

I can't help you with the Handi pin because I haven't had to make one.

If you can't find one, when I was in Military school (about a million years ago) we were issued Springfield rifles with the firing pins ground off. I had a dandy little business going...making firing pins with a file and electric drill.

You have most of the old pin so get some drill rod and a file, and make a copy. Use a propane torch to harden and temper it.

I feel yer pain!  :'(
The firing pin in my old 30-30 (now 357 mag) Handi broke just as you describe yours. The front piece didn't fall out of the frame but it was no longer attached to the rear portion. I purchased a replacement from Numrich
http://www.e-gunparts.com/product.asp?chrProductSKU=279230A&CatID=3626&mySort=2
This pin is listed as fitting the NEF Pardner and the "pin" part was slightly larger in diameter than my original. I chucked up in a hand drill and filed it down until it fit my frame's firing pin hole. Didn't take long at all. Not sure how much it'll cost to get one from the US to Australia. (cost me just under $20 IIRC)

Brownell's has em and they ship international, give em a shot, their parts are new, not used like Numrich.  :)

Never had any problems with Numrich's "used" parts, (so far  ;)) and the firing pin I received was brand new.
(We'll see if it survives the test of time.  :) )
They show "shipping outside the US", and state "all foreign orders are subject to a $25.00 export handling fee in addition to our regular shipping charges."
Hopefully Brownells international charges are more economical and Bruce can get his 30-30 Handi back "in good health" soon.

Thanks for all the replies.Whow!!!
This site seemed to go down yesterday arvo.
Anyways
After a about 4 tries to get silver solder to stick the pin back on..(wouldn't stick for some reason)
I ended up drilling a hole pretty well cntrer through the stub part.
Took an 'ol low speed dentist burr and used that as pin material. Silversoldered than in place then ran it though the drill like a lathe and got it down to size. didn't harden it back up but the steel annealed buy the heat seemd to be ductile but strong.
See how it fares..I aready put it back together.  :-[

I measure 0.037-0.038" protusion of the piring pin when fitted.

Is this about the right ???

Sets of a primer o.k. but have no old fired shells unprimed to eye ball any differnce. Seemed nice and round but.

Pic of  the blighter roughed out.

May need some drill stock. :)
Rather make one than buy one as it only makes one more confident of keeping things going if things fail in the feild in the next 20 years if'n I done'd it right like
