floating forend
« on: September 15, 2009, 07:29:40 AM »
Hi folks, I've read all the FAQ's but was just wondering who has gotten a good floating job from their floating skills.  Any other recommendations for a easy way to float the forend.  I found some of those nylon washers at Lowes, but don't want to drill out the forend just yet.  Would putting a small steel or aluminum washer into the forend so that the barrel lug would butt up to it be a possible way and kinda give it a solid almost pillar bedding.  Tim, just want to try to see who all and what methods have been used.  I don't want to try to reinvent another good way.  Thanks

We just use rubber O-rings to float our forearms.

You don't have to drill anything out to float the forearm. The washer just goes over the lug, under the forearm and stops the forearm from contacting the barrel when you tighten up. Also, the screw does not have to be super tight, just enough to keep it there. Also, putting some self adhesive weather stripping foam cross ways on the end of the forearm under the tip of the barrel so there is a little pressure on the forearm may help too. Have you shot with forearm off and on yet to see if there is any difference? Don't do any floating till you know accuracy gets better with the forearm off.
