Graybeard-
Hornady isn't considered premium by who? I have always considered it premium, I guess because of their marketing. You say hornady  ammo is very accurate, what else does it have to be to be premium? I usually buy federal premium (I like nosler partitions) Is there really much difference between factory ammo's?

Premium ammo has become pretty much synonomous with the use of PREMIUM bullets and that is NOT what anyone I know of considers Hornady bullets other than their newest bullet lines which so far as I know they don't load into any of their ammo.

I know of no one that considers Hornady PREMIUM ammo tho I sure do like it I don't place it in the premium category due to the bullet selection in it.

Now maybe this could be a joint venture.   Who knows, but I will not buy anymore of the metric Hornady.  I'd rather just buy the European stuff because it is the same stuff as far as I'm concerned.  They can keep their pretty red inked up box.    Most people buy the Hornady and expect better quality.  Maybe not premium but better stuff to say the least.  Buy what you want, just know that it is not the same Hornady as you expect.  I never meant for this to be a bash thread...Just wanted everyone to know before they order some and expect Hornady made stuff.  I rarely buy Hornady anyway as I try to zero my rifles with regular old Fed/rem/Win as they are always cheaper.  It looks like I will stick with Privi for the k31.

I wasn't meaning to turn it into a bash thread either, I was always under the assumption that hornady was one of the benchmarks of premium ammo. I guess I will have to stick with the same old federal gold box ;)

Hornady is using outsourced ammo from Privi Partisan in some of their custom loads.  I recently ordered several boxes of 7.5 swiss from Hornady and I was sadly surprised that it is just Privi Partisan.  I ordered the Hornady thinking it would be better than the European stuff out there.  I sadly found that it has the same head stamp on hte brass and when I pulled the bullet, it was exactly the same.  I have always expected more from Hornady...It looks like they have started the outsourcing game under the radar of unsuspecting shooters.

From the Hornady Webmaster today:

"Joe, no it is a bald-faced lie masquerading under a sliver of truth. We load
the Graf ammo for Graf, and Graf sources their brass from where ever
they can get the best price but Prvi Partisan is certainly one of them
for the less common loads. We then load and test the ammo in our plant
with our bullets to industry standards and send it all to Graf. I don't
know what he is looking at, I am sure it is prvi brass, but the ammo we
load is with our powder and our bullet. If anyone would bother to look
at our web site they will not see 7.5 Swiss as a Hornady load. This is
all custom loaded for Graf."

Joe thanks for the good detective work! ;)  People do not realize how much custom loading goes on in the industry.

Seems some may be eating crow for dinner today!

Kind of off topic, but relative. Doesn't Sellior-Bellot still load all the metric Winchester ammo in the Czech Republic? I learned this when buying their 7.62x25 ammo.

I've been shooting Privi 380 FMJ and it feeds and shoots and is as clean as the Winchester.

I don't know about eating crow as I only stated what I found. Why would I make this up?  I have better things to do than spreading gossip and rumors on the web.  I wanted to inform others on what I found and maybe save them some money.  I never was trying to bash them as I love most of  Hornady stuff and have no reason to lie. They in turn may have other reasons.  What reasons do they have in hiding the fact that not all the componets are theirs?  The answer is obvious, they are protecting sales.  If they were totally honest, they would list this venture on their website and stamp it on the box. I would have no problem with that. The funny thing is that many retailers are selling it, not just Grafs which makes me believe that they are selling it off to many retailers.  Sportsman Guide, Cabelas, Buffulo Arms etc..... What ever it is I will not buy anymore, and if you want buy all they have.  It makes no diffference to me.

I have and still do load a lot of hornady bullets I have never had any problems with it. Target shooting ,plinking, or hunting all bullets performed very well. I use it exclusively in all lever guns for deer, bear, and elk and the bullets all have done their job well. Yet in most bolts and semi auto rifles I use Nosler for hunting and hornady just shooting. I would not hesitate to load them with a hornady bullet for Hornady and still have confidence in them to do the job.

just my thoughts.
