Methods you use while hunting for a 2nd or 3rd quick shot

I agree with the hog - if I think I'm going to need multiple shots, different gun. On of the big reasons I love shooting single shots is because the shots count - like working without a net.

I got in the habbit as a kid to carry an extra 20ga shell between my pinky and ring finger of my trigger hand.  It helped get an extra bunny or two over the years.  but the down side is the finish on the grip of my stock tells the tale

I done that as a kid too!! But with 12 guage but could reload about as quick with a belt without the finger stretching  n' co-ordinating bit.

A 30-30 shell between me trigger finger and pointer is comfortable these days but!!!

My handi is a 22 mag.
Most of the time I don't really need a second shot.
One of my friends has a horse ranch where she takes in rescue horses and there were cotton tails all over the place and she and her vet were worried about a bug going from the rabbits that were way over populated to the horses.
On the property she had there were no preditors.
Well back to the shoot.
I have a leather ammo pouch I keep on my belt with 22 Mags in it.  The top is usually open and I shoot.  Open the action reach down and pick up another stick it in and close the action.  If the rabits were running all over I would cock the hammer like in Tim's video and swing on the running ones.  A couple of my friends came with me and they were using mag fed bolt guns.  I could keep up with them and at times could out shoot them while they were reloading rifles or mags.
It was a slaughter.  the first of three day we shot 125 rabbits.  the second was 75 and the third day was about 40 with a dozen ground squirles.  We left enough rabbits on the 40 acers but it will take a while for the 30-50 to come back to the 300+ rabbits that were plaquing the place.
The only time I had problems with the top break gun on the first day was when we were on a pile of rocks prone and shooting off of harris bipods.  Change to a bolt gun then.

If I absolutely positively had to hunt griz. with my Handi, I would place some rounds in my shirt pocket, my pants pockets, my belt, between my teeth, behind my ears, and of course between each finger.  That way if I had to run maybe he would slip and fall down on all the rounds I dropped.  Other than that, I really have never needed a really quick second shot.  Shot two does last year out of one bunch, but I don't remember reloading to be honest.  My "reloading zone" in my brain must have taken over.

Several years ago, I guided for a couple of exec's from NYC. Both had single shot rugers. Turns out that one guy was actually the boss of the other. As soon as the boss shot, the other guy handed him his loaded rifle. Talk about luxury and the ability for a follow up shot. Still makes me laugh.
Boss only wanted the rack too. I kept the meat. Can't cook them racks long enough to make em tender anyway.
