Is this a Handi sin?

OK, I know I have an addiction problem when it comes to modifying things. My archery equipment, my firearms, you name it, I gotta mess with it.

I have a program that allows me to build 3D models of things. I was messing around with the handi rifle in there. I prefer pure pistol grips to any other kind around. I was messing with my H&R Ultra design and came up with the following drawings. I know they look very different from your average handi but there is a sick part of me that would like to build this stock just to see how well it shoots/feels.

Am I approaching the border of committing a "Handi sin"?

Actually, I rather like the looks of that.  I've been thinking of something like that for my .223.  If you build it, post pics so we can get an idea of how it truly looks and works.

As long as you are starting with a handi frame its still a handie, I like creative thinking, thats one of the reasons handies are good.

Looks fine to me DsrtRat. A Handi is a Handi no matter what kind of stock or forend
you have on it. I'm not sure how it will shoot with the bipod. Some people have had
good results with them and others couldn't make them work. On some Handi's that
forend pressure can be a real game breaker.

I currently have a a 27" Harris bipod mounted on the swivel stud. The gun is a tac driver. I did however make sure that with the bibop on, there was still clearance between the for-stock and the barrel. I had concerns that the bi-pod out front would push the stock into the barrel so I sanded out some of the material and tested it with the gun sitting on the bipod.

The wood I am using on my current stock prject is baltic birch laminate. It is assembled running the grain in different directions and I would be sure to have some extra clearance on the barrel. The nice thing about this wood is it is very strong and does not have a tendancy to warp.

I haven't started it yet. i am in the process of building a for-end for to match stock I just built. I may do both at the same time though. WHat I could really use is a broken buttstock. Trying to match the curve where the stock meats gun is tough. If I could get my hands on a throw away stock or even just the inch or two that are directly behing the hammer, I could make it fit without spending a lot of time widdling wood.

That's great DsrtRat. It obviously works well for you. No one can argue with your results!

No sin in that! One of the many beauties of Handis is they are a great platform for customizing. It's all about doing what you like.

Me personally? I'm a straight grip buttstock/schnabel forend kind of guy.
Any time I get a new H&R product that is the first thing I do. I don't own a single one with a pistol grip.

Nice work on the 3D models BTW.

You may save some time by grabbing some modelers clay.  Instal your mounting bolt, lube the shaft and pack on the clay.
