Need some help with a Sako
« on: August 03, 2003, 09:28:25 AM »
Hi fellows. I am in a  "situation." My nephew came to me for advice about buying a rifle that would last him a life time and have a little style. He wanted a .25cal. I suggested he buy a Sako in a 25-06. So far so good. He was getting married in a few months and this was going to be his last gun for a long while. He bought it through Cabalas and they had to get it from the factory. When it came, there was a huge let down.  I have seen better wood in BBguns. For a $1200.00 gun, the grain was disgraceful. He has a birthday in a couple of months and I want to get a new stock for his Sako. Some one posted the web site address for Sako and I posted a message there about buying a factory stock with a little grain. However, they are closed for summer vacation. I don't know when I will hear from them. My question is do any of you fellows know any company that makes an after market drop in stock for Sakos? Thanks for any help. OOBuckshot

Can't he go back to Cabelas and return the rifle?  No doubt there are some Sako rifles that have nicer looking wood than others . . . although a lot depends on what appeals to you. Mine is also somewhat plain, having only a few knots in it for figuring.  But my buddies, who's serial # is only 3 away from mine has darker wood and quite a bit of grain showing in the stock.   I would return it to Cabelas and then look for a nicer one before putting a bunch more $$$ into it.

Also might want to reconsider the .25-06 if it only has a 22 inch barrel like the Tikka T3's do----I passed on the .25 and got the .243.

A .25-06 really needs at least 24 inches of barrel to work its magic.

Not sure what Sako is doing with their barrels---but something to look into when you get your money back.
