Controled round feed question
« on: July 18, 2006, 02:49:26 AM »
This goes for any controled round feed, but this in particular is about a ruger 77.  With a controled round feed style extractor, should you be able to extract the case before fully seating it in the chamber?  The reason i ask is my ruger does extract every time, so long as i put the bolt fully into batery.  If i push the bolt only halfway forward and then extract, the rim of the cartridge is not tight engouh under the extractor and it falls out and lays on top of the magazine.  I was under the impresion that since the rim of the case goes under the extractor as soon as it the round leaves the magazine, you should be able to extract at any point.
I am not afraid to make an example out of you

You are correct to expect a "CRF" action to extract and eject a case that's not chambered. That said, my M77 MK II and my M70 Win. Classic won't. You may find your Ruger will do as intended when the round is stripped from the magazine from one side and not the other as I find with both of my "CRF" actions. Both of my rifles favor the right side of the magazine.
